Hi,
I just finished my first semester in a cc and I want to transfer to a 4 year school next fall. Because I've been in the community college for a really short time, I was wondering if you can send letters of rec from hs teachers. Or one from a professor and one hs teacher. Is it even possible to do this? Do schools want only college profs? I'm new to this whole transfer thing so please give me answers. Thanks!

This will depend on the school. Some schools are going to say that they will only take college professor recs, but some may take a high school rec into account too. Most 4-year colleges, from what I've seen, want at least one, preferably two recommendations from college professors and some will not even look at high school recs. If you can't find this info on their website, you should e-mail them and ask. They'll know better than we do on here.

you should try to do professors if you can. if you are having a hard time figuring out what professor to ask like i did, find a professor you like start up a conversation and mention that you are transferring. the professor i asked didn't know me that well b/c we have big classes so he asked me to print out a piece of paper that had all my extracurricular activities and achievements on them.

you will be surprised that many professors are glad students are moving on to bigger and better things.

good luck in the transfer process.

Excellent advice by MIchaelW and good info from ~fire escape.
