This is for CAS:

Unfortunately, my reading is awful, only a 550, which is the 10th percentile for NYU.
My highest writing's 650, which is like the 25th percentile.
My math, on the other hand, is a 750.
(^that happens to be my intended major, as you may hypothesize)

Overall it's a 1950, but the reading looks really embarrassing and spoils the score, making it look imbalanced.

Do you think I can still get in with that 550?

Also: My GPA is 3.6

What is your class rank and weighted GPA? What ECs do you participate in? Any volunteer work? If the other components of your application are strong enough to balance out your weak CR score, I think you’ll have a fairly good chance! Your math score is awesome (which it needs to be, considering your intended major).

Class rank is 5th out of 89.
Weighted GPA ~3.8

I’m the president of the chess club.
I’m in NHS.

I got a 26 on reading on the ACT. Is this lower, higher, or equivalent to a 550 sat? Where did you find the percentiles for NYU?

On the NYU site itself. Go to freshman admission and fast facts.

And thats kinda higher, like a 590, which IS a big difference from a 550.

NYU’s admissions is holistic, so there is a chance you could get in with those numbers. If you write really good essays and convince them that you have something to contribute to the university, there is definitely a chance that you can get in. Your leadership position in Chess Club will also help.
