So I'm going to be a senior at a blue ribbon high school in MA (very competitive). My GPA will probably be a 3.0-3.2 by the time I graduate. I've taken honors French, and honors English and am taking AP psych next year. I toon SAT's in the spring and got a 1660, and am taking them again in October. I also took ACT's and got a 27. My first choice for a major is nursing, social work beings second choice because of the competitiveness of nursing school. Could you please chance me for the following schools? Thanks!

NURSING:
-Temple University
-URI
-SALISBURY UNIVERSITY
-FITCHBURG STATE UNIVERSITY
-maybe UMASS AMHERST

SOCIAL WORK:
-UPITT
-SUNY ALBANY
-any of the above.

Also- I have a lot of EC's:
-summer internship at beth Israel hospital
-red cross blood drive volunteer
-leadership program in Israel for 5 weeks
-camp CIT
-varsity cheerleading for all 4 years, captain for two seasons
-part of the Jewish student union
-has served at a homeless shelter for about 5 years
-student demonstrator for cheerleading for 2 years
-considering volunteering at an animal shelter
-while in Israel did a lot of community service, at least 100 hours
-lobbied in DC in the capitol building to members of congress for gay rights and Israeli rights (part of human rights campaign & social justice seminar)

Also, getting one recommendation from the chief of nursing at Beth Israel Hospital, one from my guidance counselor, and one from my biology teacher

I don’t really know enough about most of the schools. Though I can comment regarding two of them. Pitt is probably a no (you need like a 3.5 at the least to get in), Temple will be a match. Your ACT is good for the schools you are looking at, if you feel confident that you can get it higher it will compensate for your grades.

sunys usually look at critical reading and math, one of my prep school teachers said that with a 3.5 gpa, you’ll need to get a 1250 combine score for cr and math and you’ll “100%” be admitted to suny’s…
but i have my doubts…
try aiming for a 1800+ on the sat
but its also based on your gpa…
lower gpa should be balanced with a higher sat score…
higher gpa with low sat score would potentially harm your chance of getting in but still look decent
ask your guidance counselor for your exact weighted gpa (Weighted > unweighted, in terms of importance).
You mentioned that your school is highly competitive. Knowing this, colleges would be considerate of a 3.0-3.2 gpa.
I’m not too sure about the other school…

With Salisbury, you’ll be within their mid-50% pool so, you have a chance of getting in but keep in mind that if you’re from MA Salisbury is a public school so it may be a little more challenging for you to get in compared to someone who’s from MD.
Salisbury is the only school I can talk about. Sorry!

I looked into interning at social work offices and they dont offer any due to confidentiality. Also, the Beth Israel internship is a 60 hour summer one, if that helps.

I know a few people at my school who managed to get an internship at Hopkins because they wanted to get into nursing. I don’t know all the details but, you can ask if you can intern or volunteer at another major hospital during the school year to pad your interest!

It’ll be tough to get a social work internship just because of all the things they deal with. You could ask your guidance counselor. Maybe they’ll have some connections.
