I am a low-income junior, and I attend a public school that is known for sports in Brooklyn, and not academics. I want to apply to MIT and Columbia as well as NYU as my top schools.
I scored a 1340 on my SAT, 640 on SAT Physics, 780 on SAT Math Level 2, 4s on Ap World History and Environmental and a 3 on Ap Physics.
I plan to retake my SAT and aim for a 1500+, but considering that I want to major in physics and math, it feels as though I messed up. I will retake SAT Physics and aim for a 700+, but does it reflect bad on me that I didnt get high scores on my AP physics exam and SAT physics. I only got a 99 for the class and a 98 on a regents exam which is a NYC Standardize test. Also, I am ranked 1 and have a cummultaive average of about 99 or maybe a 100 since the semester just ended and it hasn`t yet updated yet. I am also a well rounded student, but that all satrted in junior year where I joined a team, and 4 clubs as well as volunteer work this summer.
My question is how likely is it for me to get into these schools? Do I have a shot? I am lacking motivation. What do I still have to do in order to get into these 3 colleges or any IVY League? Btw I am also a QuestBridge Scholar and I plan on doing the National College Match Application
Me too! Good luck with the Questbridge college match application. Since your apllying for questbridge I assume that you come from a low income background like me. Make sure that your common app essays are well written and thought out. They can make or break you. Start drafting them now that its summer, don’t wait till school starts! You will be occupied with so many classes, homework and etc. Is it possible for you to retake physics? you have to remember that these schools are top-notch, you have to also be a top notch candidate in order to compete with the other students. And I’m sure those are not your only EC’s. Think of things you like to do in your free time. Did you work last summer to support your family? Do you paint, sing dance, perform?
Wait so I am guessing you got in the College Match Program. to what school if i may ask? I will take the physics again. And, I love to draw as a hobby, play foootbal with my friends and I did help my parents out when they owned a restaurant, but I`m not sure how to put all of that inside my application. Thank you and i will try my very best.
“I only got a 99 for the class.” I think you know that that is a good grade.
Cornell will not consider/see your Regents scores.
Don’t lose motivation yet. Retake the tests, continue doing well in school, show them why you’re a good fit for the program, and you’ll have as good a chance as anybody.
