I am a low-income junior, and I attend a public school that is known for sports in Brooklyn, and not academics. I want to apply to MIT and Columbia as well as NYU as my top schools.
I scored a 1340 on my SAT, 640 on SAT Physics, 780 on SAT Math Level 2, 4s on Ap World History and Environmental and a 3 on Ap Physics.
I plan to retake my SAT and aim for a 1500+, but considering that I want to major in physics and math, it feels as though I messed up. I will retake SAT Physics and aim for a 700+, but does it reflect bad on me that I didnt get high scores on my AP physics exam and SAT physics. I only got a 99 for the class and a 98 on a regents exam which is a NYC Standardize test. Also, I am ranked 1 and have a cummultaive average of about 99 or maybe a 100 since the semester just ended and it hasn`t yet updated yet. I am also a well rounded student, but that all satrted in junior year where I joined a team, and 4 clubs as well as volunteer work this summer.
My question is how likely is it for me to get into these schools? Do I have a shot? I am lacking motivation. What do I still have to do in order to get into these 3 colleges or any IVY League? Btw I am also a QuestBridge Scholar and I plan on doing the National College Match Application
I don’t mean to be negative, but your SAT score, physics subject test score, and your AP scores don’t bode well for ivy applications. Your extracurriculars and class rank sound good, although it’s not just about joining clubs and doing volunteer work - your application should show that you’re getting involved and showing activism in areas about which you’re passionate. Make sure that you focus on the things that make you unique - if you can address any particular and unusual accomplishments in your essays, that could help you by leaps and bounds. I would work on getting those test scores up and on making sure you have accomplishments to tout - the fact that you’re well-rounded is a definite plus, but make sure there’s some cohesiveness to your application. The fact that you’re lacking motivation is concerning, as I think that’s a really important factor. Good luck with the applications - you’ll never know if you don’t try, but they’re high goals - just make sure you have some solid matches and safety schools when you apply as well.
Thank you. I mean the sport Im doing I love and I plan on doing in college and I have been playing this for a while in middle school. And, I was aware that it was bad to join any clubs, but I can assure you that the clubs I joined in I am very interested in such as the Math Club and Student Organization. I got a sub score of 750 on my SAT math and 590 on English that is why I plan to improve my English to atleast a 700+. And I am making sure I apply for all the SUNY and CUNY. I plan to apply early decision for Columbia. Pray for me. Thank you.
Planning on receiving a higher grade and actually doing so are two different things, but nothing is impossible. Best of luck.
First of all I would like to congratulate you on your accomplishments. You should be proud of yourself. I don’t have much to add other than I am happy to hear that you are a Questbridge Scholar who plans on completing the National College Match Application. I am hoping others chime in and advise you some more. Congrats and best of luck!
Thank you it means a lot. And if you were apart of the Questbridge network can I ask you some questions?
I am not a part of this network… but there are many people here with a lot of knowledge who can help you. Why don’t you try posting on the Financial Aid thread as well? You can also do a Questbridge search on CC. I am cheering for you!
Also- if you go to the Financial Aid forum you will see Questbridge at the top under “sub forums” and outside scholarships.
