Hi, I have a near perfect GPA in English, Portuguese (I’m brazilian), Geography, History, and Philosophy. I have a regular GPA in biology, and a horrible one in mathematics, I got three questions right out of twenty in a math test last year. (Although in English I got sixty out of sixty.) I want to study something like journalism, English, or Psychology. Do you think that, if a study a lot of math, and try real hard to maintain a regular GPA, I can get into a good college in the USA? I also do a few of extra curricular activities, such as swimming classes, English classes (in Brazil, English is extracurricular) German classes, and Kumon (not sure if it’s popular in the US, it is “the world’s largest after-school math and reading program”, to quote their official web site, and a really like to write short stories for fun. I’m still in eight grade.
I mean, that really depends on what college. If you apply yourself then yeah, you can get into a good college. Not sure how admissions work for international students, but a high GPA and good ECs should do the trick.
For US universities, you want to have a good GPA, test scores, interesting EC’s and amazing essays. Since you are in eighth grade you have plenty of time to work on all these areas. You also need to find out how much your parents can pay for a college which will determine which colleges to apply and what you consider a “good” college. There are over 4,000 colleges in the US so keep working hard and come back after you Junior year of HS and repost.
