Can I get into a prestigious/good school in florida?

I'm a low income African-American female with a
3.65 uw gpa
4.65 w gpa
4.0 core gpa (what my guidance counselor claims is the most accurate since it includes only core subjects)
I've been trying to raise that uw gpa which was at a 3.5 my sophomore year. Im also interested in QB and I've taken the act and sat and am still awaiting my scores. Im from Florida and am hoping for bright futures and my schools of choice are nsu uf and fsu along with practically any school that will admit me. Im from a 6 person household with an annual income of 30k and have lived in a financially unstable situation my entire life. Im aiming for a 29+ on act but the sat im just hoping to get maybe a 1600+ (preferably 1800s eventually) I'm also interested in gates millennium. Oh and also I would be first generation.
My ECS are not too great (no leadership position)
1.DECA (10th): couldn't continue because of schedule issues
2.BYC: its my counties youth coalition and it involves leadership overnight camps and monthly meetings I've attended for two years going on three
3. Im at a marine magnet program where I'm doing and ocean engineering (building ROVs) for the past two years, I've also done plywood Regatta which is a boat building contest for two years.
4.Various hours working at elementary school events including running fairs, etc.
5.flag football for two years
6.planning on getting a job but that might not work out lol
7.Babysitting for 4 years with my cousins and family along with neighbors
8. Math honor society member
Thats all I can think of right now but next year I'll do more and try to get a leadership role (I ran for president for BYC but they were pretty biased for not choosing me)
Other than that I'm going to study my booty off and apply to a billion scholarships
Btw im #10/480 students so top 3% and I've worked sooooo hard to get that rank (I began at 48 as a freshman)
I also take AP English and AP calc and will take calc bc and AP lit next year along with AP psychology and dual enrollment through my local community college along with AICE math and marine bio (Cambridge university program)

Can you think of any colleges I can get into with these qualifications? I'm working on my essays at this time as well as preparing to retake the act and sat. Thank you and all of your responses are greatly appreciated. I dont expect much considering I dont have scores yet and my gpa is quite low but im hoping to raise it to a 3.7 by next year. Thanks again (:

If you actually got a 29+ then UF is realistic…

As Catria said, as long as you get a 29+, then I think you’re pretty set for UF which in my opinion is the most prestigious school in Florida.

thank you @spiritkoi and @catria that is what im hopeful for

Marissa- since you are a low income student, I would suggest you to try for as solid a financial safety net under you as possible. I don’t mean to inhibit anyone’s dreams, so yes, reach for some competitive schools, but also make sure you have some affordable options. Being a Florida resident, you are in a good position for some financial aid. There is Bright Futures and also funding for First Generation students.

<a href=“Home - Florida Student Scholarship & Grant Programs”>Home - Florida Student Scholarship & Grant Programs;

Regardless of what other programs/schools on your list,focusing on Florida state schools are likely the best financial options. Highly prestigious schools, QB, are fantastic opportunities- and you can apply- but it is also a bit like winning the lottery. You need more reliable alternatives.

I saw where you posted your SAT scores, and they put you in range for UF and other Florida schools. You know though, that UF still can’t accept all the good students that apply. Yes, of course, apply but also choose some less selective alternatives, and colleges that meet your interests. University of South Florida has a marine science program. Consider New College of Florida. Choose one less selective college, where you are at the top of the application pool. Apply early to all these colleges- make sure it is not binding early action- so that you will hopefully have an early acceptance.

If you are considering Questbridge- note that some of the colleges require SAT II subject tests.

Yes I’m sure I’ll sign for some subject tests and I’m also retaking the sat and I will actually study this time. Thank you for taking your time to reply to this @Pennylane2011‌ and I hope I improve my sat scores so I can have more options.

You did pretty well for not studying. I have heard that the math section is the one that can be improved the fastest. but studying can improve all sections. Practicing from test prep books is helpful.

You also know your scores need to be higher for top schools, and you will do your best to improve them. Give it your best try.

I will and it is my goal, I won’t give up!! Thank you (: @pennylane2011

**Update*I scored an 1880 on the sat (1280 CR+M) and a 25 composite for act (not happy)

Bumppp

3.7 and 1880 isn’t bad. You may also be helped somewhat by the URM and socioeconomic hook.

U Miami – low reach
UF – low reach/high match
FSU – high match/match

My guess is you’d get into at least one of the above.

Other solid Florida options:
USF – match
UCF – match
FIU – low match/safety

Some students do better on one test or the other, and it seems that you are doing better on the SAT. An ACT of 25 is estimated to be lower than a 1880. You don’t have to send both to most state schools- most schools require one or the other. For some top schools- maybe QB?( I don’t know) they want all scores,

Many state colleges also superscore tests. Your SAT scores show that math is your lowest score, and from what I have been told, the one that it possible to improve with practice. It’s math you’ve had- through Algebra 2 and yet one has to have a good understanding of the concepts. A good test prep book can help you prepare.

Bump

Congrats on 1880, that’s likely high enough for all three schools (UM, UF, and FSU).

UM = High Match
UF = Match
FSU = Match

UF’s holistic admissions makes it a bit unpredictable, but you’re a solid match.

Also apply early to UCF/USF/UNF, etc. The other state schools using rolling admissions, and you’re likely get an merit award. It’s nice having an acceptance (and merit) before the end of November, makes waiting on the other schools easier. :)

Bump

U Miami: High match
UF: High match
FSU: Match

Hey guys just want to let you know I was matched through QB to UVA!!

@Pennylane2011‌ ^^^ QB really worked out for me, thanks for all the advice (:
