I know that most Ivy Leagues say that they “recommend” subject test scores, but that basically means required if you are middle-upper class. I am middle-upper class. My SAT subject test scores were horrible (650 Math 1, 650 Math 2, 640 English) because I didn’t study for them. I will not be sending my SAT subject test scores. I got a 1510 for SAT (770 Math, 740 Reading), 4.0 GPA, 12 AP classes (mostly 5s, some 4s) and really strong ECs/essays. I recently got into Georgetown with no subject test scores even though they say they “strongly recommend” subject test score.
Will not having subject test scores GREATLY affect my chances?
Georgetown is one of the few schools that require you to send ALL scores. So if they find out you didn’t send subject scores, I don’t know how that will go down, but I imagine it is the equivalent to academic dishonesty.
The short answer is that it depends upon whether or not they are required by any particular school, and upon your other qualifications.
The realistic answer is that it might make your application look “less complete” and, therefore, less competitive among pools of ultra-competitive applicants.
Also, congratulations on your very substantial merit scholarship to SMU business major ! (Revealed in one of your other threads.)
I agree with Publisher, and especially lacking a Math 2 SAT score, with your current B- in calculus, won’t look good. You have to understand that you’re competing against kids who either don’t “not study” for subject tests and get in the 600s or don’t even need to study to get an 800 (seriously, I have one of these!), and who easily get top grades in calculus and beyond. You should count yourself lucky that you applied EA to schools that admitted you without the SAT scores (which you were REQUIRED to send to GT!) before you decided to not put in effort and get 3Bs.
I applied to Georgetown EA. I hadn’t taken the subject tests then. I took the subject tests in November. It is not required to send subject tests scores; it’s “highly recommended”.
Per the website “Georgetown requires that you submit scores from all test sittings of the SAT, ACT, and SAT Subject Tests.” https://uadmissions.georgetown.edu/firstyear/preparation There is no cutoff date so based on this I’d say you should submit your SAT II results.
@havenoidea Again, I took the subject tests after I applied for Georgetown. Thank you for your honesty! I will probably not be applying to as many Ivy Leagues. However, I know that subject test scores are only 2-5% of what they consider in an applicant.
Read the website yourself and decide the best course of action. You can always email admissions after the holiday break and confirm that they should be sent. But that’s how I read it.
