Can I get into an Ivy with my grades?

I’m a junior right now and my semester grades since freshman year were 89, 87, 89.9, 94. While on track to take 5-6 AP’s.

classes I took:
-honors English and history with 2 AP’s in Euro and APUSH,

  • honors biology, chem, and AP Bio -regular math.
    My grades:
mid to high nineties except for the first 3 semesters of math where the last one was bumped up to the mid nineties and the first semester of chem (3rd semester overall) which Was a 71 and then god raised to a 91. My grades have largely been pulled down by religious subjects that my school requires me to take.

Extra-curriculars:
-mock trial,
-quiz bowl captain,
-model U.N,
-literary critique group,
-member of the book club and classic film club while planning trips to see movies and various authors with both clubs,
-founder of a national history bowl team that qualified for the national finals,
-member of my schools political action committee and was interviewed several times by major news outlets including CBS, Fox, and the Washington Post regarding our activist activities,
-member of UJA PACT which consisted of a group of kids raising money for various organizations around NYC my group raised over $20,000 for charity,
-Staff Writer on Fresh Ink for Teens which is a site that teenagers write stories that are meaningful and relate to them for other teenagers to read,
-member of John Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Yourh program,
-have played the drums for over 8 years and am in a band with a couple of friends,

SAT/ACT: haven’t taken one yet, I’m studying hard to get a hopefully very high score (like 1500 SAT 34-35 ACT)
SAT Subject tests: planning to take world and American history for sure while Bio, chem, math and literature are maybe’s.

We won’t know until you take the ACT/SAT.

If my math is right, your UW GPA is about 3.6, which is a bit low for Ivies. Just make sure you present a very strong qualitative portion of the app and kick butt on the ACT/SAT.

But even if you had a 4.0 and 1600/36, the odds would be against admission at any one of those schools.

Therefore, I suggest identifying the fit variables that are important to you, and building a list of reach/match/safety based on those things.

Ideas:

Academic fit: Majors and courses offered, curriculum, class sizes, research opportunities (if applicable)

Environmental: Location, weather, setting (rural, urban, suburban/small city), school size and population

Social vibe: Party/Greek scene, sports scene, clubs that might interest you

Food & Housing

Cost (obviously)

Your GPA is on an upward track so if you continue that you should be good there. We can’t chance you on your possible SAT/subject test scores. Also being just a member of a club doesn’t really show any commitment, so that may not help either, but overall ECs aren’t too bad. Good luck!
