I am very well aware of the stellar credential requirements needed to get into Ivy Leagues. I am not trying to get some ego boost from this, I just want the honest opinion from you all about my chances as of now. Do I still have a shot or should I just focus on something else now?
Currently I am a Freshman, (Rising Sophomore) in an average school (the school is ranked 90 in New York). This year was a pretty rough year for me, I know how Freshman year is supposed to be the easiest year in high school, and it was for a lot of my friends, but that feeling had skipped me. To add on to the fact that I started poorly as a Freshman, but this same year my grandfather got diagnosed with cancer and my great grandmother had passed away. Basically this year was pretty rough for me.
Right now I am worried about the mistakes I have made. As of now, I have a 92% UW on my student transcript, I estimate that by the end of this semester, I will receive a 90% UW. Feel free to look at my grades:
Grades:
Semester 1: (Unweighted)
Global Honors - 98
English Honors - 90
Living Environment Honors - 98
Spanish 2 - 88
Geometry - 85
Computer Science - 88
Junior Reserved Officer’s Training Corps - 95
Semester 2: (Unweighted)
Global Honors - 98
English Honors - 91
Living Environment Honors - 98
Spanish 2 - 88
Geometry - 70
Computer Science - 89
Junior Reserved Officer’s Training Corps - 93
I do not have outstanding extra curriculars compared to others. I intend on joining my school’s competing academic team, which is famous for receiving first or second places in nation competitions. Check out my ECs.
Extra Curricular So Far:
- 4 years experience playing the Saxophone
- 1 year marching band (went on 5 big parades in the city)
- volunteered for 2 years at my local community association as a Teacher’s Assistant
- 170+ volunteer hours so far
I have applied in my school’s Virtual Enterprise program. I have a real passion for business and finance and am looking to go to any reputable schools that emphasize on these programs.
Do I stand a chance at going to some of my dream schools?
- Northwestern University
- Cornell
- University of Pennsylvania
- New York University
- Haas School of Business, Berkeley
- University of Chicago
P.S I go to the largest public school in my city with over 5,000 students. So as you can see, there is a lot of competition in my school.
Assuming I get straight 100s for the rest of my high school career, that would give me a 97.5% GPA. Do I still have a chance at going to my dream schools? Thank you for spending your time reading my thread and for any advice given!
