i just got my november ssat scores and they are ok.
math: 800 (99th)
reading: 761 (98th)
verbal 440 (85th)
total 2301 (97th)
i have all a's at school 97 and up
i also do a lot of sports and service.
Is that 85 percent going to kill me?

thats a 740 on verbal not a 440

It probably won’t “kill” you, but Andover is highly selective, and nobody should count on acceptance either. You are certainly competitive, and stand a decent chance.

thanks. what about another school like st pauls, episcopal, or woodberry.

yxkjihgf: You look like a terrific candidate! as do most who are applying. To make yourself in the top of the applicant pool, you need to define yourself as different from everyone else in some way, shape, or form. Tons of kids from my old school got perfect ssat scores and perfect grades, but got rejected because they were only academic people. Some like my brother, two friends, and I, had pretty good grades and ssat scores, and could excel out of the classroom as well. Note that ec’s won’t solely get you through the admission process, yet they are a HUGE factor.

im in key + environmental club
Im president of my grade
im representing my city this summer on a trip to japan
i started a project with my school to communicate with a school in africa
I also swim and play soccer a lot and have gone to state competitions for both

is that enough?

any reply would be greatly appreciated

The SSAT is definitely not a deciding factor.
I had this certain mentality that if I don’t get a great score,
I won’t get accepted. From poring over all those threads
about acceptances/stats/SSAT’s I’ve definitely learned
that they are looking for well-rounded students, who are
sound in academics, but in other things as well. So don’t worry!
Good luck

As a current freshman (or, as we say, junior) at Andover, your scores are great (your 85 in verbal is nothing to worry about!), but the SSAT is definitely not a primary factor. Good grades and scores are a given to get in here, but I think the interview and your essays are most significant in separating yourself from the other applicants. If you have any other questions, I’ll be glad to answer!

Thanks i have already had my interview at andover and i plan to finish my essays and submit my application over Christmas by the latest. My interview went very well and i hope my essays will be just as good.

Good luck! :)

what grade are you applying for ?

10th grade hopefully

I got in!!!

Congratulations! Maybe I’ll see you next year during some games (I don’t go to Andover but you guys visit Deerfield often enough). Although, I probably won’t know it’s you. Good luck next year c:

Yay! Congratz! I hope you have a great time :)

Haha thanks

Woohoo !! Well done ! :D
