Hi. I am a rising senior and for the past two years it has been my dream to go to Brown University. I have been part of multiple clubs (Debate club, Robotics, Newspaper, and Buildon), and was the president of one my sophomore year (Buildon) in which we raised over 30,000 dollars to fund the building of a school in Nicaragua (which we then went and helped build). I also have a good amount of community service (a little over 100 hours). I have been on a varsity sports team since my freshman year as well. I did not take the SAT, but my ACT score was a 35. my 10-12 unweighted GPA is a 4.0, and weighted is a 4.51. I was not academically motivated my freshman year and I ended with mostly Bs and a C in chemistry 2nd semester. Will this affect my chances of getting into a college like Brown?
It’s tough for anyone. But with your considerable improvement, I’d give it a shot. What’s to lose? Certainly, apply widely to schools you love. You can’t count on ANY schools with admit rates as low as Brown. Good luck
What’s your cumulative GPA? Kind of defeats the purpose of the thread if you don’t tell us how big of an impact your “bad” year had.
I second MiscTroll. What did you report as your GPA on the commonapp?
