So I am a student at a state university and I want to transfer to BYU but am wondering what my chances are. I haven’t completed more than 24 credits so I will have to apply as a new freshman and send in my high school transcript. My unweighted GPA was a 3.9 and my ACT score was a 26. I was the captain of all three sports I played and earned over 200 hours of community service. I took 5 AP classes and passed 3 of them. In college I am in the Honors College and am earning A’s although I can’t officially prove that since when I apply the semester won’t have ended. I’m not LDS but I am getting baptized in Novemberish (after the application deadline). I am also participating in a major research project as an undergraduate and have been attending classes at the institute. What are my chances?
Hi! You should apply no matter what because you definitely won’t get in if you don’t try. Your ACT is a little below the average, but your extracurriculars look good, I’d focus on your essays and show what makes you an amazing, unique person.
My older siblings both attend. I’m applying this year, too!
One was on the dance team, did some musicals, and sang in the choir. She had a 3.7-3.8 GPA and a 29 ACT.
The other was involved in band (concert, marching, drumline, etc.). He had a 3.4-3.5 GPA and a 33 ACT.
Both wrote decent essays, but neither said they were particularly amazing. So you could really set yourself apart by focusing on your essays.
Good luck!
Thank you!
