Can I get into college with a 2.4 GPA, but a 35 on the ACT?

Caring Corps

Fresh: 1.1
Soph: 2.2654
Jr: 2.78
Senior: 4.3

After 4 years: 2.4-2.5

I know that's low, but my dad died 3 days before my freshman year and I was depressed. Then, my mom remarried in the middle of my sophomore year. What do you guys think my chances are?

i actually think you have a great shot! make sure to write a really good essay though! good luck

Well, though GPA is an important factor in most admissions, I think you definitely have a shot. You’re obviously active in EC’s and very proficient at the ACT. I’d try for excellent recommendations and write the best essays possible if I were you.

you should probably get in. your grades have a definite upward trend, and a parent dying can be tough. also, the 35 act (which is amazing btw, congratz) shows that you are intelligent. also nice job on the 4.3 gpa. great ec’s. i think you have a great shot with a good essay!

Actually your GPA will be 2.04846667 because colleges don’t look at your senior GPA. They only look at the first semester of your senior year. So you would have a little bit more than the 2.05, but if you keep your senior semester grades up, and work really hard on the essay you probably might have a shot.

Yes.

My GPA was a little higher and my ACT a little lower, but I got in to a lot of schools. Don’t worry about it, you have a good reason and you’re clearly smart.

I don’t know about hbcu’s (because I’m not black) but I got into schools that are better ranked than Howard so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

edit - if you’re a senior, don’t you already know if you got in? Unless you’re planning on taking a year off between then and now, the time to apply has long passed.

Also, looking at your historical posts it seems that you’ve made this same chance thread like 5 times (but your ACT was 30 in all the old ones) and everyone said the same thing, you’ll get in with no problems. Howard is not a terribly choosy school.

Umm…is this for next year? How would you know your senior year grades already (unless they didn’t release decisions yet)? Anyway, you have a unique situation, so it is hard to tell.

I found a student who got into Howard with a 2.6 GPA: [■■■■■■■■■■■■■ - John Saulters](http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■.com/profile.php?user=173) I think that you have a good shot of getting into Howard. High test scores and low gpa usually means a student is lazy. But since you have show gradual improvement, it is more positive.
