jack...i think what you really have to concentrate on doing things that you want to do. don't focus too much on trying to get "in" to a college just b/c it's a "good school". like many of my friends and also myself included, who are going to very prestigious schools including the ivies, we all focused our energies on our passions and excelling in things we loved doing...there's factors beyond a seemingly perfect resume and outstanding awards and stats and schools will definitely notice whether someone is doing something b/c they want to impress the adcoms or if they're truly passionate about doing a certain activity. you can message me if you want some details about myself and others if you'd like :D but good luck!

Crazedjunior is not crazy after all. Follow his advice, enjoy (easy for me to say now..lol) your senior year and do the things that interest you. Come application time, apply to your target schools, if you get in, well and good. Life is too short to worry so much about that which is beyond your control.

Gosh, I really hate chances threads as no one can adequately access your chances because no one hear is going to be at the table discussing you come next spring all you can do is toss your hat in and let the process play it self out.

you stated:

With over 14,000 applicants to the class of 2011, Dartmouth posted a record low acceptance rate of 15 percent, accepting only 2,165 applicants.

Public school graduates compose 64.5 percent of the class, down slightly from last year, with an increase in the number of students from private and** parochial schools** to 31.7 percent and** 3.9 percent **respectively.

I'm not good at chances either, unless its out state Uni. But to answer your question about test scores....in general, it is always better to be above any school median for both M and CR. As one of the authors of admissions books said: 'You don't want your regional rep adcom to have to think twice why s/he would have to lower their school median to admit you.'
