I am a freshman at Miami (OH) University and really wish to transfer to NYU for my sophomore year. I am in the Honors Program here at Miami (400 students out of 3,500) and am taking 16 credit hours this semester. I am a History/Philosophy major and want to enter law school after undergrad. I have realized in my month here that I am not a college town kind of guy and NYU seems to be a great place after some initial research. I don't want to have my hopes too high if I have no chance at all and that's why I need your help. Here are my high school stats:

GPA: 4.566 (weighted)
Rank: 3 out of 176
ACT: 32
SAT: 1340
pretty rigorous course load - 5 AP classes, some Post-Secondary, Advanced classes as well

Many extra-curriculars throughout - above average at least

I plan to be semi-involved in college and hopefully have a good GPA (what would be the minimum for a school like NYU by the way) and plan on leaving after a year. Any thoughts?

that's great news. I talked to one of the admission counselors and she said that they recommend transfers to have at least 30 credits before applying. How much does this really matter? I'll have 28 so I'll at least be close. This is now a huge goal for me and is there any other advice or things I can do to make it happen? Thanks.

SMan - I applied to NYU (with high school stats below yours and the same SAT) with 34 credits (including spring semester, which is what I think they mean when they say 30 credits) and was accepted (from Miami FL). I am assuming you mean by applying with 28 credits you mean the current semester + AP credit or other college courses taken in h/s (I would assume you are taking more than 12 credits next semester)?

I think the most important thing is to make sure you have a very strong GPA. You have a great record so far, so just keep it up with a good GPA this semester and next. Of course, make sure your essays are strong too.
