I am going to focus my app around my work with children (tutoring/mentoring) and my research.

Thank you for your comments in advance! I appreciate your advice/criticism.

You’re almost guaranteed to get in. That research stuff kinda seals the deal because it shows you’re already part of the school in a sense and barely any students have that on their resume. If you want to ask me more about the whole research thing feel free to PM me, because I also did research when I was a high school student and got acknowledged in a premier scientific journal.

I’m also gonna guess you go to one of the Ann Arbor schools? There’s quite a few high school students in the area who have or are currently doing research UofM because of their parent connections

Hey michael543212345,

Thank you for the chance! I actually don’t live in Ann Arbor. I live about an hour away, so I have to commute everyday. I wish my parents had connections to UofM. It would’ve made finding a professor so much easier. I’ll definitely PM you once I get to the publishing stage of my research. Thanks again!

You’re a match. 3.67 is NOT guaranteed admission.

Pat1120, while GPA is highly emphasized, there is more to life than just a GPA. He has phenomenal extracurricular and an impressive ACT score. If you’re not familiar with the power of research on an undergraduate college application, you should check it out. Browndude123 already has his own mcard and is involved with the school and the admissions know that and will smile extremely favorably upon him.

Can you is not the same as will you.

GPA is rather low. It won’t matter what it will be when you graduate but it matters what it is at the time of the application. The Cs and Ds in 10th are not helping at all.

I don’t see any ECs that compensate for the grades issue.

Highly unlikely you’ll get into Stanford due to low stats and mediocre EC’s.

Unfortunately, probably not…make sure you find some good alternatives…

it would be a reach because of your gpa and ec’s

You seem like a highly competitive applicant to me if you don’t put P90X on your application. ;)

Troll123 would be a better name for you.

Do you have any research paper coming from the lab work? Perhaps that may be the hook that can help your application.

michael543212345: Thanks for the assurance! I really needed it haha!

Everyone: Sorry for the repost. I don’t know how that happened…

texaspg: That’s what I was worried about. I did spend a lot of my time tutoring, when in fact, I needed a tutor…

CollegeBoardJaJaz: Thanks for giving it to me straight…

Sdgal2: My alt is UofM.

Finnlet: But I’m really proud of finishing P90X haha. I might just mention it if I get an interview.

alopez14: Sorry for the repost. Don’t know how that happned. Clever though.

billchso: I will have a research paper ready for publication review by April. However, if I apply RD, I could develop at least an abstract for my project that I could attach to my app as a supplement. Should I do RD solely for the abstract, better GPA, and the starting of college courses at UofM?

Thanks everyone!

Where do you “really want to go”? Stanford or UofM?

Okay. I don’t have much to offer, but I do have a small question. The common app only lets you mention 10 activities/extra curriculars. So…what do we do about that? (you have many so I guessed you’d have thought about that).
I’m Indian - as in I live there - and have few ECs :frowning: trying my luck at Cornell ED.
Chance me if you can. I’ve got a post floating around somewhere.

Oh and I’ve got an uncle who teaches comp sci at UofM. Is that going to help me at all? (also how is UofM? I’ve never seen the campus or anything)

You can put down the title and author list in the additional information and mark it as “in preparation” or even better “submitted to xxx”.

@michael543212345,

to tell a kid with a Cs and a D on his transcript (Some in his intended major) is guaranteed stanford admission is just plain wrong.

The kids has good ECs and he absolutely stands a chance. He is in NO way guaranteed.
And if you think high schoolers doing research is rare, you haven’t been on this site long enough.

Stanford is really tough to get in to, and i don’t know if your gpa quite matches what they’re looking for
