Can I get into UC Berkeley?

I am a sophomore at at California HS and these are my current grades going into my final exams:

Newspaper - A
English 11 - A
Chemistry Honors - A-
Algebra 2 Honors - B
World History - A
Spanish 3 - A

I've discussed my Algebra 2 Honors grade with my teacher. I started out very poorly, but I have gotten a minimum of A- on each test/quiz for the last month now, and my teacher thinks I will have no problems doing much better second semester, as I'm on an "upswing" as he says.

I've run varsity cross country for two years and I will be starting my second year of varsity track in February. I won a regional championship in middle school so hopefully I can do well in high school and this will be a big extracurricular.

Next year, I plan on taking:

AP Biology
Trig/PreCalc Honors
AP US History
Spanish 4 Honors
English 11 Honors
Newspaper (likely at a News/Opinion/Sports editor position)

I'm planning on studying AP Bio over the summer so I can really be prepared for the class. I will also do this with Trig/PreCalc, because I really want to ace math and science both semesters.

Does this seem like enough? Also, please recommend some extracurriculars. I will begin volunteering 3 hours a week after my finals (January 18-20).

Thanks!

I think you are certainly on the right track - your extracurriculars seem a little light (unless there are others you did not list?), but that is not a huge factor at Cal. If you are interested in more extracurriculars, look for things that demonstrate leadership, like student government. Keep your grades at A level, do well on the SAT and you will be a very competitive candidate.

Do you think my B in Alg2H will hurt me a lot? I took the PSAT as a sophomore this year. I didn’t really study for it because I was let in from the waiting list just 2-3 days before the test, but I got 94% percentile among sophomores and 91% percentile including juniors. My actual score was like 180 though, heh.

And thanks for the feedback!
