Hey there,
I am in my second semester of university. I currently go to Marquette University. My first semester I was a nursing student (direct admit program). That semester was really rough on my emotionally/mentally and I ended up switching majors (to journalism, which is what I am this semester), dropping one class, and getting a 2.8 GPA. I got 2 ABs, a B, anddddd… a D. I can’t tell you how unlike me that actually is. I never was one to get perfect grades but I was studious in high school and a hard worker. Last semester was just difficult on me.
This semester I am pushing hard to make up for last semester, as well as seeing a counselor. I am unhappy at my university and am looking to transfer. My #1 choice is UCF (University of Central Florida). I’ve sent in my application last week as well as my ACT scores (I got a 26). I am trying to contact my high school about sending my transcripts, and I’ve gotten in touch many time with UCF admissions with questions. I’d rather keep my name on the radar. With my application, although I was not prompted to do so at all, I added in an essay explaining last semester’s difficulties.
I am currently working hard to keep good grades and keep in contact with everyone I think can help me. My goal is to stay persistent and motivated throughout this process. I learned that I am allowed to submit my university transcripts until July 1 (for Fall semester). I know my Spring grades will be much better but I am really anxious about waiting so long, as official Spring semester transcripts will be available in June. I can send in a “in-progress” transcript. I may wait a couple weeks and then do this (I have a course that is only 7 weeks long, and that will end in a couple weeks).
I guess ultimately what I am wondering is should I send in my in-progress transcripts now or should I really wait until June? I can always appeal if I get denied. I also am curious how effective appealing to a university is… I plan to take summer courses through a community/online college so that I am not that far behind. I also have AP credits from my high school. I plan to switch back to a nursing major and have a contact set up to email soon from admissions into the nursing program. It isn’t direct admit there so I suppose that is a slight edge for me.
Any help would be so appreciated, thank you for your time.
