I’m going to be a film major and I understand that Cinema is a non-impacted program at UCLA but nevertheless I do understand, too, that UCLA is a very hard school to get into.

What do I have to do? I know the UC system prefers well-rounded students so they do look into the EC versus CSUs who strictly look at grades. Does major impact the admission process?

“…Cinema is a non-impacted program at UCLA …”

Really? I thought it was quite opposite!

I don’t know anything about stats or admissions decisions, but I do know that UCLA’s film major is incredibly selective. I believe there are about 12 or 15 students in the freshman class this year.

I wouldn’t be discouraged by the numbers, but I definitely would start doing some serious research on film schools – a lot of programs are very competitive, and you’ll want a balanced list of places to apply to. I would also recommend getting some film experience, especially if you don’t already have that on your EC resume.
