Can I get into UCSB?

This is a long shot, but here are my stats:
UC GPA: 3.79
ACT: 34
Intended major: biopsychology/psychology
Asian female
In state
3 APs + dual enrollment at CC
EC: lots of volunteer work revolving around special needs kids, typical sports(track, cross country, volleyball, competitive cheerleading)
GPA shows upward trend from freshman to junior year

I know it’s hard to get in, but I really want to try anyway. Is it even worth applying to for me? My GPA is well below their average.

yeah id say you’re in. it’s UCSB.

@otoribashi I feel unsure, because UCSB is pretty selective and my GPA is low.

Your ACT is well above average don’t worry. You have a great shot at getting in, other factors like residency will also play a role in your admissions process so just apply to UCSB along with safeties and reaches. You will find the right school during the process.

UCSB isn’t that selective that they’d turn you away for a 3.79. your ACT score is great, you took APs and did cross enrollment. californian. upward trend. sports makes you a good fit. good ECs. you’re in, don’t worry too much about it.

I am more of a realist, so I do not believe that you are a shoo-in as many other posters have stated. UCSB has about a 32% acceptance rate based on last year’s admission numbers, so that is considered selective. They do like high test scores which helps you along with dual enrollment. GPA will be your only obstacle. For class last year’s Freshman class, 60% of the enrolled students had a 4.0+ GPA and around 28% in the 3.7-3.99 range. This does put you at a disadvantage, but having great essays and EC’s along with your high ACT may be enough to bump up your chances.
I wish the best of luck and as always apply broadly.

@Gumbymom i knew I wasn’t a shoo in because of my GPA. What can I do because my GPA is basically finalized?

As Gumbymom says, your high ACT and upward trend will help you, and great essays is about the only thing you can do at this point.
