Can I get into USD???

I am going to be a senior in the fall and plan on applying early action. My GPA is currently around 3.5 and I just got my SAT scores back. On the SAT I scored a 1700 total or Reading: 600, Math: 550 and writing: 550. I live in the state of Kansas (Dont know if that matters) and I go to a private Jewish high school. My essay is going to be very good and it will talk about how I took a risk in high school by coming out of the closet during my junior year (I dont know if they like those type of essays). Also, for my extra curriculars I will have 4 years of varsity soccer and 3 years of varsity basketball. I also have had 2 jobs and a fair amount of community service. Do you think I will be able to get into USD??? Why or why not?? Chance me please!

“it will talk about how I took a risk in high school by coming out of the closet during my junior year”

I LOL’d so hard

??? What is so funny about that?

*Icemangervin26 - You are close on your stats but maybe not there. Good decision to apply early admit so that may help show them that you are highly interested. USD is an expensive school are you applying for any fa? That may be where you really have a problem…you may get in but I think any sort of merit scholarships would be difficult to get. Good luck to you and make sure your essay not only talks of your past but of your future as well!

Do you know how good USD is at giving financial aid or scholarships? I have a 4.3 weighted GPA and got a 560 reading, 630 writing, and 760 math (1950 overall). There is no way I can go to USD without some type of scholarship… Is it a waste to apply?

iceman - my D was admitted EA with similar stats so good luck!

Jbug - look at the threads for USD in the past year. There were a number of people posting their stats and scholarship offers after EA admittance in Jan-Feb. Your GPA is great, SAT very good but try to get that reading score up. I think you have a great shot at the $5 or $10K, maybe the $15K (but I don’t give the money out). Good luck to you too!
