Hey Y’all! I am a high school sophomore and I am very interested in west point as my college of choice. I have GPA of 4.0 unweighted and a 4.4 weighted. I have taken the act prep exams and they estimate me at a 27 on my Act. I am the manager of the JV baseball team at my school and I am on varsity tennis. Some other activities that I do are student council, social studies Olympiad (team captain), campus ministry (I go to a Catholic School), debate (also team captain), and skeet club. Thanks
Definitely need a higher ACT (at least 29 and higher for each section makes you competitive if you have a good class rank) or some serious leadership and extra curricular activities. It is also important to know they judge your academics more on class rank than GPA. If you’re serious about the academy study the ACT very seriously and be sure to apply to Boys’ State and Summer Leadership Experience in February of your junior year. Is it possible for you to do a varsity sport in the fall and/or winter? Also, be sure to study and be ready for the CFA, which is essentially a fitness test.
I agree, you need some more leadership roles under your belt. Unless you love basketball that much, I would drop the JV basketball manager. It doesn’t show leadership or athleticism. You are better off spending that time trying out for another sport or taking on a student government position or volunteering.
