Can I go to UCSD?

I'm a pretty nervous wreck right now, as junior year of high school will do.

I have a 1900 for the SAT (CR/Math/Writing: 670/640/590), I've done a year of sports, I play an instrument for my high school, and I volunteer at the animal shelter and a senior center. I started my own volunteer club in sophomore year, and I'm concertmaster of the orchestra. My weighted GPA is 4.03 and my unweighted is 3.73. I started taking AP classes this year, a total of three (Chemistry, Calculus AB, Language and Comp), and next year I'm taking two (Calculus BC and Physics).

Do I have a good shot? Is there anything I could do before I send in my apps? Thanks for taking the time to help! :)

You have pretty impressive EC’s and a relatively high SAT score, taking AP always classes helps if you have done well. I would say try to boost your GPA a bit more, since the UC’s admission process if usually formulaic. I’d say its a low reach/high match. Goodluck!

Try to increase at least 50 scores on your SAT test and take some subject tests, UCSD will match.

Oh and I’m also copy editor in my school newspaper.

Thank you littlesunshine! I’ll work hard to bump my GPA.

So you’ll be applying in the fall for UC? Are you in-state?

I’m sorry but UCSD is very competitive and although your EC’s sound great, your SAT score is not high enough and your GPA needs to increase.

Take an SAT prep class over the summer and focus more on your studies. Good Luck!

I’m applying this fall/winter, yes. I am in-state.

I plan to take the SAT again in October, so I’ll work hard to improve my score.
I have only taken the SAT Subject test for Chemistry, and that was a 620 /:
I plan to take another subject test for English.

I would take a few more subject tests, and up your SAT score. UCSD is a high match/low reach for you. Absolutely apply, UCSD uses an almost entirely score based application process, so improving your stats will help dramatically.
