So I know this seems like a pretty trivial question in the grand scheme of things but I was wondering if we can arrange to have like dvr or something in our dorm rooms in tercero? Or are we sentenced to a year of UC Davis programming?

I get that I am there to learn but it will be hard to miss those Maverick reruns. :P

The dorms all have cable hookups.

At UCSD, cable is included in each bedroom and in all common areas (I assume Davis is the same). CNN, ESPN, HBO, Discovery, MTV, VH1, local channels, all that stuff. I’m not sure if you can arrange to get Tivo/dvr or not though

You’re pretty much going to be SOL if you want any region-specific channels and whatnot. The best you can do is to invest in a Slingbox and hook it up at home. From there, you can stream from your Slingbox at home, to your laptop in the dorms. It requires a decently fast internet upload speed though.

thanks marzxbarz, that’s like exactly what I was looking for!

Do you think the net in my room would be fast enough or I would have to go elsewhere for a fast connection?

The internet in the dorms are BLAZING fast. You won’t have to worry about it being slow…ever! =P It’ll be the internet at your real house that may limit you. The higher the upload speed you have, the better quality you’ll be able to stream.

Okay, well I just ran the speakeasy speed test and it says my upload speed is 471 kbps, I hope that will be enough. It really sounds like my dad is going to buy one since he’s been looking for something like this as well.
