Can I improve from a 33 to a 36?

I took the ACT in October and got a 33 (33 M, 32 CR, 32 W, 35 S) What would you recommend I do to get it up to a 36? Any specific books or study guides? Thanks.

It’s certainly possible. Many people have recommended that once you have gotten up to that level, use Barron’s ACT 36 book. I haven’t used it personally, but I have seen it recommended multiple times

At 33 you have the foundations you need for sure. No doubt you can pull it up.

BTW, congrats on the outstanding score. 33 is great!

Best wishes as you work towards your goals.

Congrats! I made a similar improvement so it’s definitely possible. (Keep in mind a 35 and a 36 are equivalent in the eyes of colleges so don’t stress out too much if you don’t get a full 36).

At this point you need to focus on perfection. Make sure you understand every single question you’re missing and why. Use the real act guide for sources of questions. I personally wanted a lot of practice questions so I signed up for prepscholar but this isn’t for everyone. The main point is to really analyze your mistakes and make sure you’re building up your weaknesses.

Why. 33 and 36 are the same for many colleges. You will see a lot of numbers showing ranges, but the reality is that most are just looking for a strong showing to confirm you know stuff and then look at other aspects of your resume. Otherwise, every Ivy and similar school would be filled with those in the 34-36 range. But they aren’t.

Harvard, I am in the same boat as you… I have a 33 right now and would like to pull it up to a 35. I bought the Princeton Review 2014 book and the practice tests just from glance look pretty accurate. The math section is also very detailed with giving you several examples of difficult ACT problems.

Thanks for all of the helpful responses. Yes I understand 33 is already a really good score but its my understanding that ones chances significantly increase when they score outside the middle range, and more so when they get a perfect score
