Can I major in Engineering and take a program in Environmental Science ?

Ok. Let me start off by saying, yes I am aware that this might be the wrong section in the forum to post this question, but I couldn't find Portland State University forum on here.

Now I am an international student and I just got accepted to Portland State University. I will have to attend a year of IELP ( mandatory ) in order for my country to send me for free. Now I have a question about being on the IELP, can I join a club in the university ?

After my year in IELP, I plan on going to Portland State to major in either Computer or Electrical Engineering. Now Portland State has a very good Environmental Science program. Will I be able to join ? What's the difference between a Major and a Program ?

If a program means a major then can I double major ? Portland State is on the quarter system, so is that possible ?

Last but not least, what classes are considered Electives ? Can I take a film or arts class as an elective ?

Thank you in advance!

If you contact the IELP program, the advisors there can answer all of these questions. Often students in an IELP are allowed to register in one or two regular classes, but only the people at Portland State will be able to tell you their policy.

IELP students can join clubs on campus. I would encourage you to do that. It will help you meet students who aren’t only in IELP, and will give you lots of opportunities to improve your English and to learn more about the university as a whole.

Wishing you all the best!
