If I took all the AP courses available in my school...

yeah, thats not a terrible gpa by any means. just bolster your app with good recs and ecs, and you have as good a shot as anyone else. columbia is one of those schools where sometimes, you honestly just cant tell whats going to happen because its so selective

You really think so? Thanks :)

Ivy’s are known for being toss-ups a lot of the time. It won’t be a 3.85 that’ll get you rejected or accepted.

“will X.XX GPA get me into X College?” unless the college guarantees admission for having a certain GPA, there’s no way to know if you will be accepted. And 3.85 unweighed is fantastic. I’m sure you already know that to get into an Ivy you need to stand out and have extremely well defined passions. A lot of people tend to forget that the key to getting into the Ivy’s is demonstrating true passion for something, and a desire to be a leader in that passion. So your GPA is fine, worry about showing your passions in your ec’s instead

Thanks…that’s good to hear cuz everyone is telling me that my GPA is too low :(

What’s your rank? If you’re top 10%, you’re in good shape.

3.85 unweighted is phenomenal, I would not worry about it.

3.85 GPA will not guarantee you a spot at any top tier school. there are too many qualified applicants. my son is one of them. we are impatiently waiting for March notification time.

^^^a 4.0 GPA doesn’t guarantee a spot at a top tier school either. Ivy schools reject valedictorians with 36 ACT’s too you know.

The truth is that there are more smart people then there are slots available at top schools. Top schools are holistic and look at things beyond GPA and SAT/ACT not to offer students more chances to show how smart and hardworking they are, but to separate people who are simply smart from people who will become leaders of tomorrow in all fields of academics.

When going through students’ files, admissions is looking for people who show potential to go on and accomplish great things in their lives. Top schools are admitting future donors and leaders who will end up being placed on admissions brochures. They are admitting people to carry on their institutions great name.

Once you are in consideration for admissions (and a 3.85 is more then enough to put you in consideration), admissions is going to focus entirely on your passions. Hopefully, your essays, EC’s, and interviews will convey your passions and convince admissions that you love what you do and have potential to become a leader in that field.
