Hey guys!!! I am a junior in California and i have my eye set on Tulane university, and its program in Global Health. Anyways, with me being out fo state and all, i wondering if i would make the honors program/ how much financial assitance i would get from the college. Here's my stats:

SAT: New 2150 (~1430 old) i plan to retake and at least get 2190
SATII: all in 700's
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.5 W
EC: Yearbook EIC, Director of Newsletter, Prom Committee, Hospital, etc, etc.

hmm. also i am East Indian. Which may work against me.

Yeah ok, please give my honest chance at this school...

You'll get in, probably with Distinguished Scholars. Don't worry too much about Tulane, but for sure apply to a school slightly less selective just in case. Distinguished is half tuition, which for me is about 18k a year. For you it would be about 20k out of maybe 41k. I had a 3.5 UW Top 10% 1520 (old) with 780/750/740 on my SAT II's, 10 AP (passed all of them), Swim Captain (states). This was two years ago.

DSA this year was $22K/year, renewable. S got is with 1310/94uw/122w. You should apply EA as apparently that can increase your chances. Also look into applying for DHS - full tuition- this is the only one which requires a special app and project. Also due somewhat early.

Though nothing is certain, you certainly have outstanding stats for Tulane. Why do you think East Indian would work against you?

You certainly look good on paper. I think you should definitely go for it. However, like rico suggested, it is good to apply to a less selective school as a safety since nothing in college admissions should be considered a sure thing.

Thanks to rico, jmmom and alongfortheride for the input

Oh, and being East Indian (or Asian Indian) is def. not a good thing for colleges in California, because every other person is Asian, and they really strive for diversity. Ahhh, well, looking at some of the posts here, i suppose that wouldn't be a problem at Tulane...

ElanorRigby - As other posters have implied, being Indian may actually be an advantage for getting into Tulane since the asian population is small there. And your stats put you in good position for the Distinguished Scholars Award which will cover about half the COA. I'd definitely apply EA, and I'd also urge you to apply for the DHS. This year the EA date was November first and the DHS date was December 15th, so you'll need to be organized! New Orleans is nothing like CA communities, so I'd highly recommend a visit -- preferably when there isn't a convention in town!
