I am currently a junior and my parents got dates mixed up and decided to book a summer vacation as soon as school gets out. So, now I'm being hauled off to Florida the week of the June subject tests and the ACT. Now, I am planning to take the April ACT test and the May subject test, which falls close to AP testing. Is a month and a half enough time to prep for the ACT? And will studying for the chemistry AP test be sufficient for the chemistry subject test? And will I have time to prepare for the Math II subject test as well? I'm really on a time crunch, and am stressing out like crazy.

Well you will be busy but it can be done. What I can say is I think the 2 nd semester of junior year and 1st of senior year are the most stressful. Tests, college visits, applications. If you do not do it now it will be just as difficult later. Is this the first act you have taken? If so then you do need to take it IMO to have opportunities for a retake later. Several colleges need your act score by jan. of your senior year, though others may be later. Do you have a spring break you can devote to serious studying? Doing so can help you a bit.

To be honest, you should have planned for ACT preparation much earlier (like last summer). Ideally, April ACT should be your second or final attempt. It would be fine if it is your first/only attempt if you did prepare for it thoroughly. But it seems you have not even started working on it. Although it is far from an ideal situation, but taking ACT in April while SAT2 and AP in May is completely feasible. They may issue is you don’t have a good study plan to prepare for the tests.

If you had good quality high school courses in precalculus math and chemistry, did well in them, and remember what you learned, then you should be able to do well on those SAT subject tests with minimal additional preparation (perhaps just familiarization with the test format and question types from doing a released test). The same goes for AP courses with respect to AP tests.

But, understandably, if you are concerned that your high school is of inferior quality, you may be concerned that the courses did not teach all of the things that are tested on the tests. If that actually is the case (based on trying released tests), then you may have to do additional preparation.

I can’t recall exactly, but there is some wacky section on the Chemistry Subject Test that you will need to look over to familiarize yourself with. I think there are also a couple of topics on the Subject Test that aren’t covered on AP. Something to do with colors??? Sorry, I’m just a mom! I would get a prep book for both the Chem AP and the Chem Subject Test and do a comparison on the Table of Contents. That’s what my ds did. He took the Chemistry Subject test just two or three days before the AP Chem test. Got a 760 and a 5, respectively. But definitely familiarize yourself with that weird section on the Chemistry Subject Test. It’s some T/F questions or something.

Could you maybe wait and do the Math II test at the first available opportunity in the fall? My ds had to take one SAT Subject Test in the fall of his senior year because one of his schools recommended three, and he had only done two. That might lighten your load a bit.

Just use the big red book for the ACT. That’s all my ds used!

I think you can do it! Good luck!

I would suggest to take Math2 together with Chemistry SAT2. First of all, it is cheaper to take 2 (or 3) test together than separately. Second, you can always retake any in Fall if necessary.
@Hoggirl is right that there is a few topics in Chemistry not covered in AP Chem. My D just browse through them within an hour using one of the test prep review book.
Nevertheless, your ACT score is far more important than the AP or SAT2 scores for school application. There are only a few schools that require SAT2 when you submit ACT.
