Can I obtain a minor at my current 4-year university before transferring?

As long as I fulfill all requirements for the minor, could I?

Note: I currently go to a UC. I intend to transfer to a CSU.

No. Colleges do not award minors unless the student also finishes a major AND graduates. By that same reasoning, a student would not be awarded a major even if he/she finished all the major requirements but did not also graduate (ie: didn’t finish the GEs and other requirements). Need to graduate at the college in question to be awarded the major or the minor.

The only way to get the minor would be if the CSU accepts the credits and has that minor and you finish up any other requirements for that minor as well while at the CSU (and of course, graduate).

With all that said, minors as a general rule of thumb are not that important–meaning, if you have significant coursework finished in a minor, many employers or grad schools will look at the courses you completed in that area and realize you have a concentration besides simply your major. Unless you can point to some specific life path you want to go on that requires a minor, you should be fine.
