This is my third time asking this, and I've gotten nothing. Will someone please help me?
What are my chances at Pace University?

GPA: 1.88
ACT: 17 (retaking it in Feb)
African-American

My grades are bad mostly because my family and I were homeless and then my dad died all within these last four years. I was depressed and couldn't handle all of it at once. School on top of everything was too much. I talk about this in my essay.

I have 2 really good letters of recommendation, and very academic extra curricular activities which include mock trial, deca, debate, academic decathlon and student government... I've gotten a few really good awards and one is state wide.

I want to major in liberal arts.

Also, I want to send some poetry that I've written with my application to show talent and intellectual abilities. Is this a good idea?

I know my grades a really low, but I'm way smarter than they let on. What do you all think my chances are?

im sorry you’ve had to wait so long. I dont think a lot of people know much about Pace uni on these forums. Best of luck, and make sure you apply to safeties, matches, and reaches :)

Hello, I think is hard to tell you an accurate “chance” because of your grades and scores. However, if you’ve done the great job to have good Ecs and good letters of rec. your chances will look something like 60%.

This is what the school says:
“The Admission Committee considers the record of each applicant individually; Pace University does not have a “cut-off” GPA or test score for applicants. All applications receive a thorough review by the Committee on Admissions, regardless of GPA or test scores. Academic achievement is the primary factor for admission to Pace, but such qualities as motivation, creativity, and community involvement are also considered during the evaluation.”

So I think you can get a higher chance if you improve your score in the ACT. For example, if it goes to a 21 your chances will go to something like 70%.
I think you may have an average chance so just apply to some safety schools as a back up plan. I don’t know a lot of schools in New York but look for them and you’ll find other great schools, and if you don’t like those your first year you can always transfer as long as you have a fairly good GPA in College.

Hope this helps!
I am sorry to hear about your situation, and I will pray for your dad and your family before the year ends! I am not sleeping tonight so I can’t do it right now. =)

Hope everything goes good and happy holidays!!!

BTW: Yes. It is a good idea to send those poems. Try not to send too many so they don’t just pass them. Just send the best and I mean the best (I know they al are really good, but you need just a few.) Try also to contact a teacher from the school if you want; work with him (I mean to have him read your works and if he writes a good review and if he wills to write a letter of reccomendation it would be awesome.) =P
