My class rank is really low, and I am afraid it will affect my app negatively.
My rank is 207/360, and I think it is listed on my transcript.
BUT
on the common app, at least, can I list it as a percentile instead? Like say I am ranked in the top 60% rather than say the exact rank.
Will that be alright?
six and one half dozen — your top 60th percentile will be understood equally to 207/360. UMd College Park will see your GPA and your strong test scores – don’t sweat the rank thing. They won’t.
And your guidance counselor also provides this information in his or her recommendation, so this isn’t worth expending brain cells on.
If you omit this, they will find out, and have doubt about your honesty. it will be worse for your application.
You can not list it, but if the school is going to supply it anyway, it seems pretty pointless.
Highly competitive schools will most likely pass on someone not ranked in the top 10%, 25% and 50%. Just build your list accordingly. Look at their data sets and if you see 90% in the top 25% …
Schools usually supply it, so it’s not a good idea.
