Can I put self-studying languages in the activities section of the common app?

Hi all! I am currently studying three languages in school and seak four others fluently. I also self-study Turkish in my free time (weekends, summer breaks, etc). Is putting the self-studied language(s) worth it?

I think it is. Go for it.

I took Spanish in High School, but spoke German with my family at home and also studied it outside of school. I did not put this in my activities section of my common application but did mention it in some of the descriptions of other activities or essays. For example, I wrote about learning German and visiting Germany in my main common app essay. I also wrote that I tutored kids in German and babysat for German families.

Since you can speak and are studying so many languages, I am guessing it is important to you and that it is a big part of your life. I would definitely mention this in an essay (maybe that you want to continue to study or major in the languages you are currently working on) or an experience you have had with languages/cultures. Colleges will love it if you want to study languages and already have so much background. Again, sing you work on many languages you could put “Language Studies” as one of your Extra-Curricular Activities, and under the description put which languages and what you use them for/how you study them!

Hope this is helpful!
