The first time I took the ACT I got a 21 composite (21E 21R 18M 23S) with no preparation. I went in blind again for a free school one and got a 25 composite (23E 23M 28R 23S) Already a 4 point increase with no studying. Literally all I did was use one strategy for reading and raised my score by 7 points. My goal score is a 28 and I think if I study grammar rules and math rules etc (which is where I struggle the most) I might have a fair chance. What do you think?
Yes. You can move that score. I think you can exceed your target with practice.
The best way to study for the ACT is to practice with REAL ACT tests. There are 5 tests in the Red ACT Book, 3rd Edition. They are old, but you will be able to get a good foundation of the concepts tested.
ACT released several tests in booklet form.
TIME each practice session to simulate the real test.
English 75 questions in 45 min.
Math 60 questions in 60 min.
Reading 40 questions in 35 min.
Science 40 questions in 35 min
Score your test, and then review only what you got wrong after each practice session.
I suggest the following schedule:
Take 1 section each week night/with review for 4 nights/week.
Twice per month on a Saturday or Sunday take a full ACT test/with review.
