Is it possible for me to raise my score by two or three points

I am a rising senior and I’ve taken the ACT three times. March, April and June.

My scores in March were bad.
Composite 25
E 27
M 25
R 24
S 22

I already knew my score was going to be bad because I didn’t finish some of the reading and then lost confidence during the science so I immediately signed up for the April one without even waiting for my score. This was a mistake for one huge reason; I prepped using tests from McGraw Hill tests. These tests were nothing like the real thing and didn’t prep me at all.

My scores in April were
C 25
E 27
M 27
R 25
S 22

I once again lost confidence after I felt I bombed the reading section. I signed up for the June test and broke out the big red book which lead to MAJOR improvement for reading and science scores. I foolishly ignored math and english because I felt prepared in these categories but on test day I forgot my calculator. My scores were

C 27
E 26
M 27
R 30
S 25

I have three big questions.

  1. Should I bother taking it again? I’m unsure if I can ever get a 30 on the reading again and my school of choice does not super score.
  2. Is it even possible for me to raise my score two or three points? I’ve already taken it three times but this is the first time I felt prepared?
  3. What books should I use to raise all my composites? Barrons was awful but I’ve heard Princeton is good and I am definitely going to use the Red Book for practicing the math tests because I’ve already used all the reading and science ones.

If I do take it, it will be the one in September of this year. Thanks guys

Try the September test.

I suspect it may be careless errors that are keeping your score down. You clearly know the content.

The best way to study for the ACT is to practice with REAL ACT tests. There are 5 tests in the Red ACT Book, 3rd Edition. They are old, but you will be able to get a good foundation of the concepts tested.

ACT released several tests in booklet form. Use them next.

TIME each practice session to simulate the real test.

English 75 questions in 45 min.
Math 60 questions in 60 min.
Reading 40 questions in 35 min.
Science 40 questions in 35 min

Score your test, and then review only what you got wrong after each practice session.

I suggest the following schedule:

Take 1 section each week night/with review for 4 nights/week.
Twice per month on a Saturday or Sunday take a full ACT test/with review.

From my personal experience, I can guarantee the method @HereToHelpYou has listed will raise your score. I received my results from the September test and scored a 29.25(29); 3 Thirtys and a 27.

Good job Kingkahn11! Thanks for letting me know.
