Hey guys. So, I’m a latino student currently applying early decision to Lehigh University. I don’t know if I have any chance of receiving financial aid from Lehigh. I got 91 on toefl score - due to an accident - and 1350 on sat - 750 math and 600 english. However, I didn’t take any SAT Subjects. I have some really good recommendation letters and a more or less cool college essay. The only problem is: my parents have money. They receive more than 200k usd/year. Nevertheless, they can’t afford all the college cost, because I have 2 brothers - one of them is on college and the other will be getting into when I complete my undergraduation. So, guys. What do u think ? Do I have chances of receiving all the financial aid I need ?
p.s: I asking for 40% of financial aid from the total cost.
The school awards financial aid to a “fairly small” and “highly qualified” group of international students.
You need to compare your stats to the average stats at Lehigh to figure out if you are “highly qualified.”
From the school’s website:
The university awards financial aid on the basis of demonstrated need. Merit scholarships may also be awarded on a limited basis. No application is necessary for merit scholarships.
Non-U.S. citizens do not qualify for any federally funded programs; therefore the university subsidizes all funding through institutional sources. Each year we anticipate a fairly small and highly qualified group of non-U.S. citizens to be offered financial aid. If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien living abroad and you want to apply for federal financial aid, you must have a U.S. Social Security number. You should apply for this at the local U.S. embassy or consulate as soon as possible.
The following forms are required for consideration of financial aid for non-U.S. citizens. All international student financial documents (outside of the CSS Profile) can be submitted online as a PDF through the LU FileSender or submitted to luinternational@lehigh.edu. This includes the Certificate of Finances and the International Student Financial Aid Application.
The school does offer financial aid but they say it is very limited. I got a VERY GENEROUS aid packet. When I applied for financial aid, I had a really low EFC compared to other students applying. Everyone told me not to apply early because they don’t offer enough aid, but I did anyway. so, i guess if the university really wants you, they will offer you aid.
I completely agree with @Heyyjudee1
