Can I receive financial aid from my Community College?

I attended community college last year and am going to university this year. I was a little confused about how financial aid worked in this country and ended up applying for next years with my community college again. Long story short I got a financial aid award for my community college, my question is, if I just take a class online from that community college while still attending my regular university, could I accept the reward?

You can only be a matriculated student at ONE college…that means enrolled towards a degree. Are you enrolled in a degree seeking program at your university? If so…NO, you cannot receive financial aid from the community college.

In the FAFSA you can change the school code to the school you want to attend so they can give you an aid package

Are you a U.S. citizen?

Yes…you can change to the ONE school where you plan to attend. BUT if you are a degree seeking candidate at your university…THAT is where you would get financial aid. If you are taking online courses at your CC…and are not in a degree seeking program, you cannot get aid to attend there.

Oh…and taking A class (one) would not make you eligible for aid…at all. It’s WAY less than half time enrollment.

What kind of aid are you talking about? @mommdc suggestion to change your FAFSA and submit to your university is a good one. You would still get the Direct Loan, and any Pell Grant for which you are eligible.

The max Pell for a $0 EFC is about $5800 a year for a full time student (12 credits or more), the federal student loan fir a student at junior standing is $7500. Student must be a US citizen or permanent resident alien.

If you are transferring from a CC to a 4yr university you need to know if you can afford the tuition, fees and living expenses at the university you want to attend. You file a FAFSA and any other aid forms they require and provide the information they need. They will give you an estimate of aid you may qualify for based on that.

You will only get Pell and loans for one school. The Dept of education will send the aid to the school you are enrolled in and have registered for classes as a degree seeking student.

Have you applied for aid at the university and have they given you an aid package? Can you afford to go there with the aid you qualify for?
