To those who haven’t read my chance thread, I have a 4.0 GPA uw. This is all but official though. My school reports weighted GPA, and I have a 4.1 w GPA (APs are multiply by 1.2). This is relatively the highest GPA of my high school. I wouldn’t know though since my high school doesn’t rank. So my question is: Can I self report my GPA or do I have to report the GPA my high school give on the transcript?
You should self-report your GPA exactly as it appears on your transcript, otherwise Admissions might question your truthfulness and wonder why your self-reported GPA is different than the one provided by your high school. If Admissions wants to recalculate your GPA from weighted to unweighted, or by dropping non-academic courses such as gym, music, chorus, theater, health etc – let them do that by their own institutional formula. Student’s should not attempt to do it on their own.
Even if your HS doesn’t provide ranking, when your guidance counselor submits your Secondary School Report (SSR), your GC is asked to report the highest GPA in your grade. If you have the highest GPA, Admissions will know it from looking at the SSR. See top section of page 2 of SSR: http://www.du.edu/apply/media/documents/2012CASSR.pdf.
In addition, nothing precludes Admissions from lining up all applications from a specific high school in GPA order to determine the relative pecking order of all applicants from your high school. When a high school doesn’t provide ranking, colleges will usually do this to better understand where student’s fall within the grading system at your high school.
Let Admissions Officers do what they do best. Self-report the GPA that is on your transcript!
@gibby Thanks a lot.
