I’ve heard that GPA is self-reported, but I am confused on how that works.
Do you fill in the GPA, or is it automatically calculated some how?

Your HS guidance counselor sends in your transcript, along with his LOR.
@TorBruh ^ yup , and your gpa can be reported weighted and non weighted, ask your HS guidance counselor what ur HS does/has.
The Common App asks for your GPA, but the colleges will defer to the transcript, unless it is a college that does not require transcripts until after acceptance. Make sure the GPA you report matches your most recent transcript. If the HS reports both weighted and unweighted, report the weighted as per the Common App instructions, although most colleges will look mostly at the UW GPA or recalculate it to their parameters.
