Can I send NMS my SAT scores before I'm an official semifinalist?

I'm registering for the June SAT (late, I know), and I'm not really sure of four colleges I'd like to use for my 4 free score reports. Can I send one to the National Merit Corporation instead? I got the letter saying I'm one of the 50,000 high scorers, and unless the cutoff for my state jumps fifteen points in one year, I'll be a semifinalist, and will need to send NM my SAT scores when I apply to be a finalist. Can I send them now, even though I'm not officially a semifinalist yet? Will NM keep them on file, or disregard them until after semifinalists are named? It's no big deal, it would just be nice if I could save $9.50 down the road.

Bump ... has anyone had this dilemma in the past?

you can send your scores to 4 schools that you're going to apply to since you've got to send it to them anyways. that way you won't be wasting any free score reports. it's what i did.

^ That's my dilemma--that I don't really want to send my scores to colleges. I plan to use my ACT score to apply to college, and I don't really want colleges to see my SAT scores (unless I end up doing amazingly well). I'm just taking it b/c National Merit, along with some other scholarships and opportunities, only accept the SAT.

how bout some safeties then? then you can send your SAT to some safeties and ACT to your matches and reaches...

Call National Merit to find out. 847-866-5100

^ Good idea. Thanks.

what did you score on PSAT? i score a 192 (TERRRRIBLE). If you qualify for NMS, you must be pretty smart. My friend at school made a 238 and a 2400 on SAT

Hey, if anybody was wondering the answer to this, I called Natl. Merit today and they said it's fine to send scores early, but just that after SF announcements come out in the fall, I should call again to make sure NM still has them on file.

p.s. user3725, my PSAT was fine (222), I just like my 34 ACT better. :)
