The deadline for John Marshall and Loyola Chicago is April 30, so i can still apply. I already got my recommedations sent to LSAC and can send an updated transcript there too. I have not taken the LSAT yet, but plan to take it in June (although I have not really studied for it intensively since I have been focused on school). Should I still apply?

Your application won’t be considered until it is complete, and that means an LSAT score. Also, most schools have made their selections for this year, so you’re only going to have a slim shot at schools that would have been safeties for you. I would recommend that you hold off and apply very early in the next cycle, you’ll see much better results.

That is what I thought, but a relative of mine, who says will guarantee that I will get into LS, as been urging me to apply now. I have told him that I have not taken the LSAT yet but he tells me to apply anyway before the deadline and send them the score when I take the test in June. Can this work?

No, you need an LSAT before they even consider your application,

I am aware of that, but if I apply now, will they wait untill I take my LSAT in June before considering my application?

If it’s passed their deadline, they won’t.

However I recently learned that Brooklyn Law School’s deadline is August. I’m sure there are a few other T2 and T3 schools with similar deadlines. You may want to do some research on that, although I would strongly suggest you work a year and reapply next cycle. If your application goes complete in July, you’d be getting into a school that you’re overqualified for at best and losing scholarship $$ that you would have gotten had you applied early, which could amount up to $100,000 or more.

You can apply anytime. Whether or not you’ll get in is an entirely different question.

Ok. lets say I apply now before the end of the month deadline (I’m not saying I will, just a scenerio). If I do send my applications before the deadline, will the recommedations still stay on file and be resued again if I decide to apply again in the fall? Do LSAC keep recommendations on file? Please let me know about that because it is a very important concern I have.

The recommendations should stay on file with LSAC, but you’ll need to add them to a new application next year as the 2010 cycle becomes available. Bear in mind that if you apply and are rejected (which is likely, just because they filled their seats), you’ll have to note that on next year’s application.

… why? Can’t you just ask the recommenders to send them in again?

well first of all, many of them are retiring and may not be around. Second, even if they are still teaching, I really do not want to ask them to write another letter. I appreciate the fact that they took the time and energy to write recommendations for me so I don’t want to ask them to do it again. They did me a great favor, so I don’t want to have to ask them to do me another one. That’s why these letters are extremely valuable to me.

I can certainly wait until the new admission cycle in the fall to apply. I am not in a hurry to go to LS. If I apply now and there’s not enough room then oh well. I will just apply in the next cycle. The only real fear that I have is losing the recommendations letters if I don’t apply this year or if I reapply in the fall.

I’m pretty sure most professors save a copy of every LoR they write. You can simply ask them to resend it.

First, your LoRs are saved with LSAC, so you won’t lose them. Secondly, waiting until this upcoming cycle is definitely the smart idea. By applying early you’ll get into better schools and get more merit $$.

Seriously, you’re giving them the envelopes and the letters are already written. This is not a problem.
