I'm a senior in High School applied to McGill for the Agriculture and Environment Faculty and was accepted but when I applied, I used that as a placeholder. Now, I know that I want to do Economics in the Faculty of Art. Is it possible for me to switch faculties so I can start this fall or possibly the second semester of my first year in the Faculty of Art?

Mac has the lowest admission requirements at McGill. You app would have to be reevaluated for Arts transfer. Otherwise you would have to transfer after first year, if your marks allow it.

My daughter applied to Education instead of the Arts, and her phone request to change it on the application did not work, but the good news is she did get admitted to the Faculty of Education.

So would it be possible at this point to try to switch to the Faculty of Arts now as an incoming freshman?

If that does not work, are there any restrictions on the courses she could sign up for if she does enroll in the Faculty of Education while planning to transfer to Arts at the end of the first year?

thanks!

(bump) Or, simply, if you are enrolled in a faculty does it force you to only take certain classes, or can you sign up for any class not normally needing a prerequisite or permission?

@gmccr39 I talked to the McGill representatives about this issue during the 4th of April Webinar, and according to them, it is really difficult to change faculties immediately after being admitted to a different faculty. You will likely need to submit a whole new application to the Faculty of Arts.

Your daughter will probably have to complete her freshman year at the Faculty of Ed. and then apply for a transfer as a U1 student.

Because these faculties have such different levels of selectivity and admission requirements, an inter-departmental transfer can be problematic. According to the McGill rep, about 134 students applied for transfer to various faculties last year, and only 6 were actually granted their request.

Arts and Science are pretty easy to transfer into if you meet the pre reqs and have a cgpa over 3.5
