My son got into the Faculty of Arts. He wanted to go to McGill so bad he is going and will be attempting to get into the Faculty of Science (Chemistry) after the first year. Anyone have experience making such a change or know someone who did? It is tough because he has to take the Freshman program for the Arts and mix 2 chem and 2 calc courses with the Arts Freshman program and hope he gets into the Chemistry program/faculty after…but the Faculty of Science Freshman program requires 6-7 sciences courses. So he will be 3 science classes behind, even if he gets in. Anyone know if that will basically make it so he is rejected or will they let him (if they admit him into that faculty) immediately start to catch up. I know he could take 1-2 courses over the summer to speed that process. Basically … looking for some guidance or thoughts on this. If he stays determined to study chemistry after the first year of taking courses, he may transfer somewhere else.
My daughter wants to switch into the Faculty of Arts & Sciences from the Arts. Is there someone
who knows if there is an advisor that she and swivelneck’s son can communicate with now? She doesn’t have as challenging a scheduling problem, but it would be nice to have some advice.
@searchngmom @swivelneck Contact faculty and perhaps departmental advisors for more information about faculty transfer! (Most likely faculty unless you want specific information for the major your children want to pursue). I know that between certain faculties, transferring depends a lot on the gpa during the first year. Here’s the link for all of the advisors, hopefully they’ll have more advice on how to go about this. http://www.mcgill.ca/students/advising/advisordirectory
Thanks.
