I really want to major in International Relations and a good AP for that would be AP World History, but they unfortunately don’t have that AP at my school. I am currently a junior (spring semester) and I want to take the AP exam in aproximately 3 months. If I start studying now would I have a chance of passing? I really want to show colleges I took initiative but if I dont pass that will look bad so should I just take the exam senior year?
If you spend 1-2 hours a day consistently studying, I would say you would have a chance. I just started self-studying for the AP Psychology Exam as a freshman, which obviously has a lighter course load. AP World has a significant portion of the test for the DBQ and Free Essay Sections, which you would need to practice for by yourself. If you took APUSH or are taking it right now the concepts should be very similar. Keep in mind, however, the amount of work required to take it in 3 months is going to be a lot, and it might interfere with your extracurricular activities.
@lv123 yup. If you watch the Crash Course videos, that should be a pretty easy 4+.
This might be late, but I have experience with the subject (self-studied my freshman year, got a 4). I found both CrashCourse (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBDA2E52FB1EF80C9) and GetAFive (https://www.getafive.com/ap-tests/world-history) to be very helpful. I also used the Barron’s book and TeacherOz’s cram packets (http://www.teacheroz.com/apexamreview.html) at the bottom of the page. Hope this helps!
Hopefully you’ve already taken an AP History course/test. If so, the essays shouldn’t be too much of a problem. This was my case at the time. Then, you can focus solely on learning the content. If not, definitely learn and practice writing the essays (DBQ, LEQ) as those take time to perform well on. Without a solid base of essay writing skills, you won’t be able to earn a 4/5 on the exam.
