Can I transfer in to JHU Tufts Boston University with these stats

High School:
2.54 gpa unweighted
1870/2400 SAT
Good EC's
3 AP classes
One of the best high schools in the nation

Minority: Black and Hispanic Female

College:
University of Houston (scond tier school?)
3.95 GPA
EC's: Model UN, Debate Team, Community Service

Hoping to transfer in my third semester. Is it possible.

Thanks

I’m unclear on what you mean by “transfering in my third semester”. Does that mean you’re planning on applying for fall admission after your freshman year? If so, you’ll be fighting an uphill battle. Colleges rely more heavily on HS GPA and SAT scores (Note that JHU doesn’t require transfers to submit any test scores) than they do for junior transfers.

However, if you mean you’re applying after your third semester for junior status, you’d have a much better chance. If that’s the case, I’d predict with a good essay and good recs, you’re in at BU. JHU and Tufts are stiff competition, but you should definitely have a fighting chance.

Or translated into CC: As a junior transfer

Tufts- High Match/Bit of a reach
JHU- High Match/Bit of a reach
BU- Low Match

If you’re desperate to get out of your current school though, I’d add a few more prospects.

Best of luck. :)

I mean that I want to transfer in my sophmore year. I really would love to go to tufts or jhu. Do you think UT is a good safety school. I am instate for UT. Do you know of any other schools that have good international relations programs that would be a match or slight reach for me preferbly on the east coast.

How about American U, GWU, George Mason, UMd-CP? I’m not sure how they stack up on admissions chances, but there should be some range in selectivity there.

I was just about to suggest GWU.

But I really think you should wait two years. You’ll be in a lot better shape. How do you feel about UHouston? If you wait, and of course keep your grades up, you’ll have much better options. I suppose you could transfer twice, but that sounds horribley inconvienient.

I’m not really familiar with UT, but since it’s a state school and you’re in-state you should be okay there.

I don’t know much about IR programs, but there are a lot of schools up in my neck of the woods. Georgetown is the first that comes to mind, but it can be pretty competitive.

Best of luck.
