Can I transfer to CMU with my stats?

<p>Hello, I am planning on transferring to Carnegie Mellon for the Spring Semester (2009). It will require lots of paperwork and begging my current professors so I wanted some sincere input to see if its worth trying.</p>

<h2>College</h2>

<p>I am a rising sophomore at U of Maryland - College Park
I am a Computer Science major, I am in the Departmental CS Honors program, as well as the general honors program and special QUEST honors program.</p>

<p>GPA: 4.0/4.0
Credits: 41 without APs</p>

<p>So far i am confident that i fit the profile, but here is where it gets tricky.</p>

<p>SAT: none, did not take them (CMU says i shouldnt take them now)
ACT: none, did not take them either.</p>

<p>As you can see I did not take any standardized tests for many reasons that would be long to explain my entire life. Anyway the point is i don't have exams to prove my academic potential.</p>

<h2>High School</h2>

<p>1st High School:
Private school, no GPA, no Rank. (Fairly B+ average in my opinion).
2nd High School:
Senior Year only, GPA: 4.3. However, when combined with my private school classes (all counted as normal non-honors classes) my GPA goes down to about 3.8.</p>

<p>So as you can see, im not exactly "CMU" exact fit, given that my gpa is a little bit low.</p>

<p>Extra Curricular and Awards</p>

<ul>
<li>A bunch of clubs (im not really a leader of anything...)</li>
<li>Solar House Decathlon Team(we won national champions!, 2nd place international) 2007-2008</li>
<li>Dean's List both semesters</li>
<li>Most Outstanding Freshman Award. 2007-2008</li>
<li>some crappy awards in high school, but doesnt really matter.</li>
<li>Tutored math and sciences freshman year.</li>
</ul>

<p>I think that would be it.. i might be forgetting some stuff but i doubt it will make any difference.</p>

<p>Application Essays: should be good.
Recommendations: should be good as well.</p>

<p>That's pretty much all i have. So if you think I have a "fair" chance of getting into CMU's school of computer science, let me know. If you think that I do not fit the CMU'S students profile, let me know as well!</p>

<p>Personally I think you should aim a bit higher and wider, but you'd probably need to take some subject tests -- along with your SAT. </p>

<p>It's obvious UMCP doesn't challenge you.</p>

<p>I had a 3.8, 32/36 ACTs, and applied to HSS @ cmu as a philosophy major, got in. I literally wrote my app the day it was due. Don't sweat it. I'll be going to cornell, though. </p>

<p>FYI, the whole process was so disorganized, I put minimal effort into the whole ordeal (I sent in everything at least 1 week late), and it took so long to get a decision, I would've bet everything that I got denied.</p>

<p>I dont think that you'll have any problem, but you need to make sure that you have great essays.
I applied to CMU and was accepted, but I'm going to attend Caltech. Hmm... Bourne's post is exactly on the point, with these stats and assuming that your next semester will be similar to the previous ones-- you definitely should aim higher than CMU.
That being said, CMU has one of the best CS undergrad programs in the country, at any case you should apply to more than one school (reach, want / happy and safety).</p>

<p>Hey,I am looking forward applying as transfer student to Carnegie Mellon, do you mind tell me the process for transfer student. I will also like you to look at my stat.
High school GPA: 3.6
College first semester: 3.360,
Calculus 2 A, Physics A-, English B+, C++ C. I did poor in c++, well… it was my first time taking any programming class and it was challenging. I know I will do better next. However, my SAT is problem.
My SAT is very low, 1045,
However, I have done physics research( theoretical physics): about standard model, L.H.C. I done very good things in my first semester.
I want to apply to CIT( Mechanical engineering major). I know my SAT is slow, to be honest I didn’t have the resource to study the SAT. I will like to hear about your input.</p>
