Transfer to Carnegie Mellon? What are my chances?

I am a freshman at Oberlin College working towards a Chemistry major, but I am hoping to transfer to Carnegie Mellon University (Mellon College of Science) as a Chem major for Fall 2011.

I do hate when people post stats because most people just do it to brag, but I was just wondering what any of you thought in terms of chances.

High school GPA: 3.9 (unweighted) 4.6 (weighted)
College GPA: 3.8
ACT Composite: 27
Extracurriculars: I started a campus organization for female science majors to inspire interest in science and math among middle school and high school girls, I work as an assistant engineer at the college radio station, I'm a radio dj, and I'm involved in an activist type club.
Work Experience: 2 shifts at the dining hall, tutor chemistry and physics.

All 4s and 5s on APs including: spanish language, english language, calc ab, art history, physics c mech, and physics c e&m

I don’t think they’re very good. CMU only accepts 15% of transfers and they want your standardized scores. http://www.cmu.edu/ira/CDS/pdf/cds_2009_10/d_transfer_admission.pdf</a> For freshman admission the scores are very important and your scores are very low. http://www.cmu.edu/ira/CDS/pdf/cds_2009_10/c_first_year_admissions.pdf</a></p>

I’m not applying freshman admission. I’m applying transfer. They may not use the scores the same way.

As a soph transfer, you will only have completed 1 sem/qt, so your HS record (gpa & rigor of coursework) and test scores will be more heavily weighted than what you have done in college.

anyone heard anything yet?

Im getting so nervous!

Erin’s Dad, is there a chance the data you’re presenting might be skewed? I didn’t see a specified college anywhere in the chart, which implies that the data represents every school in Carnegie Mellon University. These are the stats for each school, not just a big mash-up of averages:

Look at MSC specifically, not all of them together. I don’t think I could get into CMU as a whole, or any of the science-oriented schools. However, I have a good feeling about the one I’m wish to attend, H&SS.

I did get in transfer lol. I’m gonna ironically advise everyone to never seek advice from anyone on this site because no one knows what they’re talking about. I don’t know what motivates us to think that random people we do not know on the internet are somehow reliable sources of information. I don’t know why I even made a chances post. Guess I fell into that trap.

Congrats!!! That is fantastic!

I am trying to transfer for Chemical Engineering… How did you find out? Mail or Email?

I first found out through “Where Am I in the Process?” and then mail. Good luck!!

This is honestly a little frustrating. I called them today to ask, and they said they haven’t made a decision. This is my dream, I cant believe its taking so long to find out.
