Can I transfer to the uni I want after just one semester at my local CC?

I think I can, but will I get in?

See, here is the deal. I am a junior and I have a 2.7. I may be able to graduate with a 3.0 or so if I am lucky. So lets say I have a 3.0 GPA for high school. I am taking the ACT’s and SAT’s senior year and studying over the summer for them.

[University of Kentucky | Office of Undergraduate Admission](http://www.uky.edu/Admission/transfer.htm)

That is the link to the transfer office at UK. I am an OOS applicant from New Jersey. If I went one semester to my local CC for half of freshman year, what are my chances at getting in for the second half of freshman year? I know I am allowed to apply but it says that I would need:

Application for Undergraduate Admission

Test Scores: Official results for either the ACT or the SAT I

Transcripts:

Submit a complete official high school transcript including the date of graduation.

An official transcript must also be submitted from each college or university attended even if no credit was earned.

Non-Refundable Application Processing Fee: Attach $50 in cash, check, or money order made payable to the University of Kentucky.

I mean, none of this seems like a problem. However, I am just asking this because since my grades were so bad (even though I am improving and it will show), I am just wondering if they will look at my transcript and say “Oh forget it”

But my cousin said that won’t happen because he goes there and has friends that did the same exact thing and said that they only need the transcript to make sure you took the classes you needed to take (Foreign Language), and that UK is not competitive so as long as I have like a 4.0 by the time first semester is over I should get in easily.

Does anyone know how the transfer process works? Why do they want my high school grades and everything? Will being an out of state applicant at a community college looking to transfer there after the first semester kill my chances? How do I know what my chances are? How is this determined?

I’m so confused…

because that early on your hs grades will be of more importance than one semester at college

you need to be realistic with what you can accomplish or else you are setting yourself up for failure. you have a 2.7 now and are hoping to improve to a 3.0 or so by graduation, which would probably necessitate you getting a 3.5 or so from now until graduation. then you are hoping to get a 4.0 at college. to be blunt, there is absolutely no evidence in your record that would demonstrate you are capable of pulling off such grades. it is possible to be sure, but almost everybody who comes on here with lower grades than they want assumes that they will be able to get substantially better grades in the future…usually past performance is the best indicator of future performance. again, not impossible, but you have to ask yourself if you are capable of getting a 3.5-4.0

if you do push your hs gpa up and get a 3.7+ your first semester in college, you will probably have a decent enough shot of getting into uk, imo

gl

It says that I would only need a high school transcript (only thing I need from HS), BUT ONLY IF I AM APPLYING WITH 24 OR MORE SEMESTER HOURS.

What would 24+ semester hours equate to? What the heck is a semester hour?

Just from the website you provide you can see that you will not be able to transfer after one semester. UK does not accept winter transfers… the soonest you can hope for is spring. In your case though the more terms at the college the better to help negate your poor performance in HS (assuming you can do as well as you hope at CC).

Let me ask you this. If I just go to the CC for two years, would I have a good chance? Granted I have a high GPA?

I mean, if I did that I would still need to include my HS transcript, but lets just say I have a very high CC GPA. Would I basically be a match at UK? Like if I’m going to spend 2 years at a CC and I want to go to UK for the rest of college, should I be doing EC’s and stuff at my CC or should I just worry about my GPA and nothing else? B.c that is what it seems to be…just a numbers game, and luck.
