Didn’t you also do 5X10^10 community service hours a day?
Maybe that was the problem…
“I used to think that CC was full of above average students, that we all could emulate. Turns out its full of the top tier students, who have the best possible chances. Its impossible for those of us that are not slightly wealthy to gain the amount of EC’s and volunteer that you people have. Obviously, due to home responsibilities and lack of car or bus token money…”
Very true. I moved to an okay suburban school after middle school. Didn’t have transportation/money to have violin lessons, tennis lessons, art lessons. Practiced A LOT of tennis during the summer when the courts aren’t covered with snow… but still am not good as those who have the opportunity to take lessons or go to clinics. College admissions can be unfair at times, but college doesn’t determine who you are. Ability to take responsibilities at home or to use the little resources that you have can take you farther than where you go to college. And of course, if you DO get into a first-tier college with little resource, you will have accomplished a lot more.
dammit people here are so paranoid. Anyone can get into any school if they are reasonably qualified. It all comes down to what they are looking for that year. Write great essays and sell yourself to the school. Then let them make a decision and move on after that. The kind of people on this site at times get on my nerves. I know plenty of people with 1900 ish SAT scores who have gotten into the likes of dartmouth, cornell, stanford etc. What does it say on almost eerry college website? Usually something like WE AINT GOT CUTOFF SCORES .Just stop worrying so much people, please.
of course im just like anyone else… a little nervous/ anxious etc. but im not freaking out like some people I know and like some people on CC seem to be.

What about the opposite? If I have super high SAT scores, but no ECs at all, lousy recs and simple straithforward essays?
If all you have are great test scores then you will likely be easily rejected by top schools. Particularly now as people are beginning to question the ability of standardized testing to predict future college peformance, my guess is that schools would really love to make an example out of the candidate who has done nothing to stand out in the pool other than score high on some test.
I dont think thats true. Scare tactic for what? Its not as if anyone would not apply to a school based off of what they’ve seen on this board. I think stats are reported accurately. I don’t understand why anyone would lie.
It’s the internet, there are lies everywhere you go. Some posts that are not true can discourage people. People lie for all kinds of reasons; it is true that a a portion of the people lie on this forum about their merits. It’s better to know “actual” people that got into a certain school and then ask them for advice.
